Charlene Moore Hayes became vice president for human resources at The Johns Hopkins University in 2003 after serving for nearly 20 years as a human resources professional elsewhere. Her priorities include developing strategies for effectively managing and engaging JHU employees; designing and executing Hopkins One, an enterprisewide business systems project; and promoting the university’s initiatives on institutional diversity.

Before joining JHU, Hayes served as North Carolina State’s associate vice chancellor for human resources, the university’s chief human resources officer, since January 2000. Prior to that, she worked for nine years at Purdue University where she held a series of increasingly responsible positions before becoming the university’s chief personnel officer. Previously, Hayes served in higher education at the University of California-San Diego. She began her human resources career as a labor and employee relations specialist in Maryland’s Montgomery County government.

Hayes is a featured author in the Aspatore Books C-Level executive series, Inside the Minds of Human Resource Executives.
