Mary George Opperman has been a key organizational strategist and policy maker for Cornell University since 1996. She works with human resource professionals within the colleges and units, college and unit deans, vice presidents, vice provosts, business officers, and members of Cornell's self-governance system, as well as with Cornell's president, provost, and board of trustees on key human resource issues. During her tenure at Cornell, Mary has overseen targeted salary improvement programs, implementation of a new HR information system and accompanying process redesigns, a campuswide restructuring of the HR function, negotiation of bargaining unit contracts, and development and implementation of a variety of new programs to address the changing needs of today's families as well as supervisory, leadership, diversity, and recruitment issues.
Mary currently serves on the board of the TC3 Foundation and is chair of both the Workforce Investment Board and Foodnet. She actively participates with the Tompkins County United Way.
Prior to working at Cornell, Mary spent 13 years in the human resource function at Harvard University. She is certified as a senior professional in human resources and is a graduate of SUNY Oneonta.
